Connecting to AIM

On this page are several guides for connecting to the NINA AIM service.

AIM is still under active development and we require donations to keep this project going, as we don't have ads nor sell your information. Please consider showing your support by donating.

Notice to Escargot users

When logging in do not include @escargot.chat and use the same password you use for WLM/M-S-N.

Notice to users from other AIM servers

If you have previously used your AIM client with someone else's server and you intend on using the same screenname with NINA, you'll need to follow these instructions otherwise you may have issues with your BuddyList.

AIM 1.0 - 5.9

  1. Register (modern website only) your screenname (if you are an Escargot user, you can use your Escargot username)
  2. Download the desired version and install.
  3. On the login window, click on "Setup". Change the hostname to the following value:
login.oscar.nina.chat. Port should be the default (5190).

AIM 6.0 - 7.5

To connect to these versions, you must do the following:

  1. Register (modern website only) your screenname (if you are an Escargot user, you can use your Escargot username)
  2. Download the desired version and install.
  3. Exit out of AIM completely. Make sure the clients aren't open on the tray.
  4. Download and run the NINA Auth Patcher.
Note: Windows Defender currently reports a false positive infection in this patcher, we are working on the issue.
  5. Click "Patch All" or select an installation and click "Patch Selected".
  6. (AIM 6.2+ only) On the login window on the client, click "Settings" and set the host to kdc.uas.nina.chat, port 443.

AIM 8 - Chromium and Web Based Options
(Confusingly called "AIM for Windows" and "AIM for Mac" with 1.x version numbers in early releases)

To connect to AIM 8, you can patch the Windows version or use it on your browser.

To use it on your browser, go to client.nina.chat.

To patch the Windows client, you must do the following:

  1. Register (modern website only) your screenname (if you are an Escargot user, you can use your Escargot username)
  2. Download the desired version and install.
  3. Exit out of AIM completely. Make sure the clients aren't open on the tray.
  4. Go to %localappdata%\AOL\AIM (press Win+R or use Explorer).
  5. Edit the config.xml file and replace the src attribute (by default, is https://www.aim.com/.client) with http://client.nina.chat/.client.

TOC

If using a TOC client, you can set the host to toc.oscar.nina.chat and port to 9898

WebAPI

If using a WebAPI or WIM client, you can use api.nina.chat.

AIM on the Web

AIM was available on web browsers in a variety of ways.

Patching binaries

If you have a binary you wish to patch by yourself (this is not required for standard AIM clients), you can replace the host .aol.com with .nina.bz. Therefore you can modify the host to be login.oscar.nina.bz.
